General Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- 1-2 years’ experience working 1:1 with students ages 5-21 years old, who have emotional disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities, and multiple disabilities.
- Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices
- Ability to create a positive, engaging learning environment
- Must have a positive attitude and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to fluently speak, read, and write English
- Must be able to safely lift a minimum of 40 pounds and work indoors or outdoors
- Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children
- Must see and hear well enough to keep children safe and engage in physical activity with them
- Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English, proficiency in Spanish a plus
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage student behavior in the classroom and throughout the school.
- Provide a consistent, reliable, and supportive presence in the classroom.
- Escort assigned student to all in-school activities.
- Accurately and completely record student’s progress in a timely manner.
- Model positive behaviors and attitudes to assists creating and maintaining a positive culture.
- Adhere to safety rules to ensure students’ safety and security, providing crisis intervention when necessary.
Expectations of Staff:
- Attend Culture Card/Morning Meeting daily (located in Cafeteria) at 8am.
- Staff must sign in the time the arrive at the front office for time sheet. purposes and initial they have arrived in the cafeteria to be staffed with a student.
- Masks must be worn at all times while in the building and can be removed only when outside and 6 feet away from others.
- All TBA logs must be completed before staff leaves.
- Cell phone usage is not allowed during the hours students are present (8:30am-3:30pm).
- Work-related questions should be directed to Gregory Yarbrough II (Therapeutic Behavioral Coordinator).
- Also note, Wednesdays are half days for students and are professional development days for permanent staff; temporary staff will be notified in advance if they are needed for specific Wednesdays.
The dress code is as follows:
- Polo/Collared Shirts
- Black/Navy Blue/Khaki Pants
- Denim (jeans/jean jackets) with no rips, holes, frays, etc. permitted
- Minimum jewelry should be worn for staff/child protection and to safeguard valuables
- Staff should have short nails for student safety
- Close-toed shoes (i.e. Tennis Shoes/Sneakers)
